(Happy Mother's Day!)

What better inspiration than my own culture and making a handmade gift for my grandma?

This Mother's Day I created cards for both my grandma's and my mom. These cards use our Chinese heritage as inspiration for the imagery. In Chinese culture, a multitude of objects and symbols have the same meanings, but like all symbols, the ones that hold the most importance to someone are the ones that they believe in strongly.

The rooster represents good luck and fortune, as well as my grandmother particularly likes roosters. The bells and the five Emperor coins also symbolize good fortune. The octagon shape in the background comes from the Ba Gua mirrors often used in practicing Feng Shui.
